Dangote, Ethiopia, and Djibouti Partner for £520 Million Fuel Pipeline

A substantial new fuel pipeline project, valued at £520 million ($660 million), is set to link Ethiopia and Djibouti. The venture is being led by Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest man, whose Dangote Industries conglomerate is collaborating with both national governments on the scheme.

The 750-kilometre (466-mile) pipeline is designed to transport refined petroleum products from Djibouti's port directly into Ethiopia, a landlocked nation heavily reliant on its neighbour for maritime access and imports. This direct conduit is anticipated to significantly enhance Ethiopia's energy security by streamlining supply chains and reducing dependence on road transport.

For Djibouti, the project is expected to deliver tangible economic benefits, primarily through the creation of new jobs within its port operations and the broader logistics sector. The port of Djibouti currently serves as a critical regional hub, and this pipeline further entrenches its strategic importance in East African trade infrastructure.
