DUP Deputy Leader Emma Little-Pengelly 'Revolted' by Jeffrey Donaldson Sexual Assault Allegations
Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) Deputy Leader Emma Little-Pengelly has stated she was 'shocked and revolted' by revelations concerning former party leader Jeffrey Donaldson. These remarks follow a report in the Belfast Telegraph detailing allegations of sexual assault against Donaldson dating back to 2016.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, a woman alleged that Mr Donaldson sexually assaulted her and subsequently made a senior DUP member aware of the incident at the time. This information has brought scrutiny to the DUP's internal handling of such serious accusations.
Mr Donaldson resigned as DUP leader and was suspended from the party on 29 March after being charged with historical sexual offences. He has indicated he will contest the charges. While the DUP has confirmed awareness of the unspecified allegations against Donaldson prior to his formal charges, the party has declined to elaborate further, citing the ongoing legal process.
This situation underscores recurring questions regarding accountability within political organisations and the transparency of their internal processes when confronted with allegations of serious misconduct.
