Dutch Zookeeper Dies After Leopard Attack at Beekse Bergen Safari Park
A zookeeper has died following a leopard attack at the Beekse Bergen Safari Park in the Netherlands. The woman, whose identity has not been released, succumbed to her injuries after entering the animal's enclosure on Thursday morning.
The park's director, Niels de Wildt, confirmed the fatality, stating that the incident took place while the zookeeper was engaged in daily duties. Safety regulations at Beekse Bergen mandate that staff do not enter enclosures simultaneously with dangerous animals. An investigation is underway to determine how this protocol was breached.
The deceased had a long tenure at Beekse Bergen, having worked at the park for four decades since beginning her career there at the age of 17. Her extensive experience in animal care and management makes the circumstances of her death particularly concerning. Authorities have launched an inquiry into the matter, with park operations continuing as normal, though the specific enclosure remains closed to the public.
