Five-Year-Old Aalim Ahmed Died After Leaping From East London Window, Inquest Concludes

An East London Coroner's Court inquest has determined that five-year-old Aalim Ahmed died from head injuries sustained after he jumped from a first-floor window. The incident occurred on 10 February 2024 at a property in Romford, East London.

Aalim, who was diagnosed with autism and was non-verbal, was found by his mother, Tania Ahmed, after she heard a thud. The court heard evidence that Ms Ahmed had previously requested safety modifications to the window, specifically regarding its restrictors, following an earlier incident where Aalim attempted to open it.

Despite these concerns, the window restrictors were found to be faulty, allowing Aalim to open the window fully without resistance. He was reportedly watching television in the living room while Ms Ahmed prepared food in the kitchen. The inquest revealed a delay of at least ten minutes between Ms Ahmed last seeing Aalim and discovering him outside.

Senior Coroner Nadia Persaud recorded a narrative conclusion, stating that Aalim died from head injuries after jumping from a first-floor window. The family's legal representative indicated they would be considering the implications of the findings.
