Competition Regulator Approves Danone Acquisition of Huel for €1 Billion
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has given its final approval to Danone's acquisition of Huel. The French multinational, a dominant force in the food and beverage industry, is set to integrate Huel, known for its plant-based nutritional powders and ready-to-drink meals, into its portfolio.
Danone stated the €1 billion transaction is aimed at bolstering its presence in the burgeoning nutritional health sector, aligning with consumer shifts towards health and wellness products. Huel, established in 2015, has rapidly expanded its market share, particularly among younger demographics in the UK and internationally.
The CMA's investigation focused on potential impacts on competition in the UK market for meal replacement products. Following a comprehensive review, the regulator determined that the merger would not result in a significant reduction of choice or an increase in prices for consumers, allowing the deal to proceed without conditions.
