Former Cambridge Professor Jason Arday Found Deceased After Plagiarism Allegations Emerge

Jason Arday, who made headlines for becoming the youngest Black professor at Cambridge University at the age of 37, has died, his family announced. His family stated they were 'in shock' and attributed his passing to the impact of a 'campaign of misinformation' surrounding allegations of plagiarism in his academic work.

Mr Arday had resigned from his professorship at Cambridge in February. This followed an investigation by the university into claims of unacknowledged sources and duplicated content within his published academic papers. Prior to his resignation, Mr Arday was a professor of sociology of education at Cambridge's Faculty of Education.

The allegations against Mr Arday surfaced in November of the preceding year. He had joined Cambridge in early 2023, having previously held positions at the University of Glasgow and Durham University. His career was notable for his rapid ascent in academia, particularly given his journey from being non-verbal until the age of 11.
