Fugitive Faces Murder Charges Over Walthamstow Arson Deaths
Fouad Boudra, 25, an Algerian national, has appeared before the Old Bailey, facing charges including the murder of two men in a fatal arson attack in Walthamstow, east London, in 2024. Mr Boudra was extradited from France to answer allegations concerning the deaths of Mohammed Djellal, 24, and Faouzi Bouchadoe, 35.
Details of the Incident
The court heard that the house fire, which occurred in a multi-occupancy block on Forest Road, is believed to have been ignited following an argument over a mobile phone. Prosecuting counsel, Joel Smith KC, informed the court that the building was swiftly “overwhelmed” by flames, leading some residents to jump from first-floor windows to escape.
Mr Djellal and Mr Bouchadoe were discovered deceased inside the property, both succumbing to smoke inhalation. Additionally, a third man sustained a partially collapsed lung, and a fourth required hospital treatment for burns and blisters.
Investigation and Charges
An investigation concluded that the fire was deliberately started in the lounge using a flame, ruling out accidental causes such as a discarded cigarette or electrical fault. Mr Boudra, of no fixed address, allegedly fled the scene to France before his arrest and subsequent extradition to the UK.
In addition to two counts of murder, Mr Boudra is also charged with two counts of manslaughter, arson with intent to endanger life, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to a third individual. He spoke only to confirm his identity through an interpreter.
Judge Judy Khan KC remanded Mr Boudra in custody. A trial has been scheduled for a three-week period in January 2027.
