Funeral Planned for PC Matthew Blades, Kent Police Officer Killed in Patrol Car Collision

PC Matthew Blades, a serving officer with Kent Police, will be laid to rest at a private funeral service held in Canterbury.

The 47-year-old officer was tragically killed in a road traffic collision on the A28 Sturry Road, near Canterbury, on 26 September. He was driving a marked Kent Police patrol car when the incident occurred.

In a statement released via Kent Police, PC Blades's family honoured his memory, stating he brought "light and laughter into every room." They described him as a devoted father to his two daughters, a loving husband, son, and brother. The family also expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support from the local community and the wider policing family, requesting privacy during this difficult period.

PC Blades had served with Kent Police for two years, having previously worked for HM Prison Service for two decades. His dedication to public service was a hallmark of his career.
