Human Jawbone With Teeth Found in Lake Mead as Water Levels Drop to Historic Lows
A human jawbone, complete with teeth, was found by recreational boaters in Lake Mead, Nevada, on Saturday. The discovery comes as the reservoir’s water levels have plummeted to unprecedented lows, exposing areas of the lakebed previously submerged for decades.
This is the second set of human remains found in Lake Mead in a week. Earlier, a barrel containing human remains and a bullet wound was uncovered, prompting a homicide investigation by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
Lake Mead, a critical water source for millions in the US South-West, has seen its water levels drop drastically due to the most severe drought in the region in 1,200 years. The lake is currently at just 27% of its full capacity. These conditions are a direct consequence of prolonged climate shifts and the continued over-extraction of water resources.
The exposed lakebed reveals stark evidence of the long-term impact of resource mismanagement and environmental degradation in the region. Further discoveries are anticipated as water levels continue to recede, raising questions about past incidents in the area.
