Liberia Confirms Agreement to Accept 1,200 Foreign Nationals Deported from the United States
Liberia has formally acknowledged an agreement with the United States to accept up to 1,200 foreign nationals designated for deportation. The Liberian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement characterising the arrangement as a “humanitarian arrangement” and explicitly denied receiving any financial compensation in exchange for accepting these individuals.
The ministry clarified that the deportees are not Liberian citizens but rather non-Liberian foreign nationals who initially arrived in the United States from Liberia. This clarification follows earlier reports and public discourse regarding the specifics of the agreement.
The precise nationalities of the individuals to be deported and the criteria for their selection under this agreement remain subject to further detail. The United States frequently deports individuals who have committed crimes or violated immigration laws, with such arrangements often involving countries that served as transit points or original departure locations.
