Independent MPs Zali Steggall, Allegra Spender Form Australian Centrist Party
Independent MPs Zali Steggall and Allegra Spender have officially launched a new centrist political party in Australia, named Community Strong Australia. The move signifies a concerted effort by parliamentary independents to formalise their political presence and offer a unified platform for voters disillusioned with the nation's dominant political forces.
The new party's stated objective is to champion 'reason over rage' in public discourse, positioning itself as a moderate alternative amidst what its founders describe as an increasingly polarised political environment. Community Strong Australia intends to contest future elections, potentially drawing support from a broad spectrum of the electorate seeking policy grounded in evidence and collaboration rather than ideological division.
Both Steggall and Spender have previously gained prominence for their advocacy on issues such as climate policy, government transparency, and economic reform, often aligning with a progressive yet fiscally responsible agenda. Their decision to form a party rather than continue as unaligned independents reflects a strategic shift, aiming to amplify their collective influence and provide a more structured challenge to the existing political order.
