Philippines Prohibits Video Game Following High School Shooting That Killed Three Students
Philippine education officials have moved to prohibit the online shooting game 'Call of Duty Mobile' across all educational institutions, following a rare school shooting in Iloilo City. The incident, which took place at a local high school, left three students dead and another 20 injured.
The alleged shooter, a 17-year-old male student, reportedly invoked the popular video game during the attack and continued to reference it in the aftermath. This claim has prompted a swift and definitive response from the Department of Education, which has issued a directive to ban the game from school premises and networks.
While Western nations grapple with recurring incidents of school violence, such events are notably infrequent in the Philippines. The Department of Education's prohibition signals an attempt to address perceived influences on youth behaviour, though critical observers may question the efficacy of such measures in lieu of deeper societal analyses.
