Indian Tourist Dies as Two Helicopters Collide Near Mount Everest Base Camp Landing Zone
An Indian tourist has died and four others sustained injuries after two helicopters collided during a landing attempt near Mount Everest base camp. The crash occurred in the Solukhumbu district, an area frequently utilised by expeditions bound for the world's highest peak.
Reports indicate the two aircraft, engaged in commercial tourist flights, were attempting to land simultaneously in the same designated zone at Lukla, a village serving as a primary entry point for Everest treks. The collision took place just metres from the ground.
The deceased has been identified as an Indian national. Three Nepalese passengers and a pilot were among those injured in the incident. Investigations are underway to determine the precise sequence of events leading to the collision, which underscores the operational complexities in the high-altitude, high-traffic environment around Everest.
