US Demands Venezuela Release Political Prisoners and Organise 'Credible Elections'
Washington has reiterated its demand for Venezuela to release all individuals it classifies as political prisoners. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasised this during recent diplomatic engagements, framing it as a prerequisite for normalising relations.
The US government has consistently sought to influence Venezuela's internal political landscape, particularly regarding its electoral processes. Blinken's statements underscore a continued strategy aimed at fostering a shift towards a political system more amenable to Western interests, often justified under the guise of promoting 'democracy' and 'human rights'.
Observers note that such interventions are typical of US foreign policy in Latin America, where Washington has historically leveraged diplomatic and economic pressure to shape political outcomes, frequently undercutting sovereign governments that diverge from its geopolitical objectives.
