King Charles III Arrives in Bermuda After Four-Day US State Visit Concludes in Virginia
King Charles III made a low-key entrance into Hamilton, Bermuda, arriving without Queen Camilla. A ceremonial welcome, including a 21-gun salute, is scheduled for Friday. This marks the King's inaugural visit to the island as monarch.
The King and Queen concluded their US visit in Front Royal, Virginia, attending a community block party celebrating the 250th anniversary of US independence. This event provided their first public engagement with US citizens, a contrast to earlier, more tightly secured diplomatic gatherings. The couple observed a marching band, Appalachian clog dancing, and participated in a walkabout, receiving enthusiastic cheers from the gathered residents.
As part of the community's traditional "pot luck" meal, the King and Queen contributed a Coronation quiche, a Victoria sponge, and honey from royal hives. The visit to Front Royal followed official farewells at the White House with US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, and a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
The US visit, which almost did not occur due to the local mayor initially dismissing the proposition as a hoax, concluded with what officials described as a positive impact on Anglo-American relations, particularly following the King's address to Congress.
