King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and Prince William Confirm Aberfan 60th Anniversary Visit
King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and Prince William are scheduled to visit Aberfan, Wales, on 21 October 2026. Their attendance will mark the 60th anniversary of the catastrophic colliery spoil tip collapse that devastated the village.
The disaster, which occurred in 1966, saw a massive tip of coal waste slide down a mountainside, engulfing Pantglas Junior School and 20 houses. The tragedy resulted in the deaths of 144 people, including 116 children and 28 adults.
The royal party will participate in a memorial event held to commemorate the victims and acknowledge the profound, lasting impact on the community. The visit underscores the enduring national recognition of the Aberfan tragedy, which remains a poignant chapter in modern British history.
