Kris Jenner Becomes Unlikely Symbol of Fortune on Chinese Social Media
A unique cultural trend has emerged on Chinese social media, where users are actively disseminating images of Kris Jenner, the matriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner family, in hopes of manifesting good fortune and financial success. This unexpected phenomenon has gained significant traction on platforms such as Weibo and Xiaohongshu (RedNote), with an estimated 99,000 posts featuring Jenner on Xiaohongshu alone, garnering 52.9 million views.
The 'Momager' Manifestation
The trend is attributed to Chinese social media users' respect for Jenner's perceived hard work and business prowess as the 'momager' behind her family's media empire. TikTok creator Marcelo Wang, who first brought wider attention to the trend, described it as a Gen Z method of 'cosplaying Kris Jenner' to manifest success. Jenner herself acknowledged the trend, commenting on one of Wang's videos with her famous catchphrase: "you're ALL doing amazing, sweetie!!!!"
Images circulating online depict Jenner in various professional guises, from 'lawyer Kris' to 'teacher Kris', symbolising ambition and achievement. The movement has also permeated Douyin, China's equivalent of TikTok, with numerous videos explaining and participating in the trend. While predominantly confined to Chinese digital spaces, initial appearances on Western social media platforms like X suggest its potential to spread further.
