Malaysian Court Tries 14-Year-Old Boy for Alleged School Murder of Girl

A Malaysian court is currently hearing the case against a 14-year-old boy charged with the murder of a 13-year-old girl. The alleged incident occurred within the premises of their school in Negri Sembilan on 27 May. The boy, whose name has been withheld due to his age, entered a not guilty plea to the charge, which carries a potential death penalty upon conviction.

Under Malaysian law, individuals under 18 cannot be executed; however, they may be detained at the pleasure of the monarch or state authority. The court proceedings are being held behind closed doors, with the public and media excluded.

The victim, identified as the daughter of a local politician, was reportedly found dead in her school’s special needs classroom. Initial police investigations, as reported by local outlets, indicate that the girl was strangled following a dispute.
