Martin Greensmith Convicted of Father's Murder in Lincolnshire Pub Garden

Martin Greensmith, 30, has been convicted of murder following the fatal stabbing of Steven Shevels, 50, in the beer garden of the Thorold Arms public house in Harmston, Lincolnshire. The incident, which occurred on the evening of 26 May, followed Greensmith's recent discovery that Shevels was his biological father.

Lincoln Crown Court heard that Greensmith, of Wragby Road, Lincoln, inflicted multiple stab wounds upon Shevels. Despite efforts to save him, Shevels died at the scene.

Emergency services, including paramedics and police, were dispatched to the pub garden around 22:15 BST after reports of a serious assault. Greensmith was arrested at the scene.

During the trial, the prosecution detailed the sequence of events that led to the confrontation, emphasising the recent revelation of their familial relationship as a significant factor in the interaction. The defence had argued for a lesser charge, citing Greensmith's emotional state upon learning of his paternity.

Greensmith will be sentenced at a later date, with the court reserving judgment until further reports are prepared.
