Yr Wyddfa Hiker Sophie Goodyer-Bird Died from Heatstroke, Inquest Finds

A 35-year-old woman, Sophie Goodyer-Bird, died from heatstroke while climbing Yr Wyddfa in July, an inquest opening at Caernarfon has confirmed. Ms Goodyer-Bird, from Leicester, was undertaking the climb on 22 July when temperatures on the mountain reached 25 degrees Celsius.

Kate Robertson, the senior coroner for north-west Wales, stated that Ms Goodyer-Bird collapsed and was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by a local mountain rescue team. A post-mortem examination, conducted by pathologist Dr Mark Lord, concluded the provisional cause of death was heatstroke.

The inquest has been adjourned to a later date to allow for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Goodyer-Bird's death.
