Metropolitan Police Officer Denies Causing Death by Dangerous Driving in Eltham Collision
A Metropolitan Police constable has denied charges of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a fatal road traffic collision in Eltham, south-east London.
Police Constable Nadeem Hassnain, 33, appeared at Inner London Crown Court to enter his pleas. The charges relate to a collision on 13 February 2023 at the junction of Croydon Road and Footscray Road.
The court heard that PC Hassnain was driving a marked police vehicle that collided with a car driven by Zeinab Ahmed. Mariam Ahmed, 27, who was a passenger in the car and eight months pregnant, died as a result of the incident. Her husband, who was also in the vehicle, sustained serious injuries.
The collision, which involved a police vehicle travelling at approximately 50 mph, occurred during a police response. The full circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to be scrutinised during the trial.
PC Hassnain was granted unconditional bail. A provisional trial date has been set for 28 April 2025.
