Nigerian Army Recovers 33 Kidnapped Civilians in Zamfara State Operation

Nigerian army troops have liberated 33 civilians held captive by gunmen in Zamfara State, north-western Nigeria. The individuals were abducted on Saturday while in transit through the region, a frequent target for criminal gangs.

A military spokesperson confirmed the rescue operation, stating that all 33 individuals were recovered safely. The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria's north-west, where heavily armed groups conduct kidnappings for ransom and engage in wider banditry. These groups frequently target travellers, students, and rural communities.
