Parents Report Joshua Hall's Killer Posting on Social Media from Prison
The parents of Joshua Hall, who was murdered in 2020, have voiced their anguish over his killer allegedly posting on social media while incarcerated. They contend that such online activity from prison is both unlawful and deeply cruel.
Jack Sumner, convicted of Mr. Hall's murder in Gloucester, has reportedly been active on platforms like TikTok, sharing videos that feature other inmates and music. Mr. Hall's mother, Kirsty Hall, stated that the content has left her 'absolutely heartbroken', with posts appearing as recently as three weeks ago.
Joshua Hall, 17, died after being stabbed in a Gloucester car park in April 2020. Sumner, then 17, was handed a life sentence in October 2020, with a minimum term of 15 years.
Mr. Hall's parents have formally reported the alleged social media use to the relevant authorities. Prisons explicitly prohibit inmates from accessing the internet or social media, with mobile phones and internet-enabled devices being contraband.
A Prison Service spokesperson confirmed that it is investigating the reports. They reiterated that prisoners caught with mobile phones or using social media face severe consequences, including extended sentences. The spokesperson also stated that any illicit content discovered would be removed.
