Police Scotland Investigates Claims of £1.5 Million Unaccounted for in Yes Scotland Campaign
Police Scotland has commenced an inquiry into claims that approximately £1.5 million, ostensibly raised for the 2014 Scottish independence referendum campaign group, Yes Scotland, cannot be accounted for. The investigation follows a formal complaint lodged by a member of the public.
The individual making the complaint alleges that the substantial sum was collected by the campaign but its expenditure or current location remains undisclosed. This formal referral has prompted the police force to open a dedicated line of inquiry into the matter.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed, "We have received a report of alleged financial impropriety relating to the Yes Scotland campaign. Inquiries into the matter are at an early stage."
Yes Scotland was the primary organisation advocating for a 'Yes' vote in the 2014 referendum on Scottish independence. The campaign's financial dealings have periodically drawn scrutiny, particularly regarding transparency in its fundraising and spending practices during the lead-up to the vote.
