Reco David-James Puttock, 13, Drowns in Halifax Reservoir, West Yorkshire Police Investigate
A 13-year-old boy, Reco David-James Puttock, has died after being recovered from Leadbeater Dam in Halifax. West Yorkshire Police were alerted to the incident on Lumb Lane shortly after 15:20 BST on Monday. Despite efforts, the teenager was pronounced dead at hospital.
Lightlife Academy in Halifax issued a statement, describing Reco as "a popular and much-loved student who will be greatly missed by students, staff and our wider academy community." The school indicated that support would be made available for students returning from half-term and that plans for a community tribute were in development.
Local sports organisations also offered condolences. King Cross Park Rugby League Club, for whom Reco played, stated, "There are no words we can say which will make this loss any less painful for his family and friends especially at such a young age." Kippax Welfare Rugby League added, "There are just no words befitting for such tragedies, in times of unimaginable grief, rivalries and colours simply do not matter. Rugby league has lost one of its own and we grieve as one."
Police have confirmed that investigations into Reco's death are ongoing, though no suspicious circumstances are currently believed to be involved. This incident is one of several drownings reported in open water across England during the bank holiday weekend and into the current week, a period marked by elevated temperatures. On Monday alone, another teenage boy died in South Yorkshire, and a 16-year-old girl drowned in Warwickshire. Declan Sawyer, 15, also drowned in a lake near Lincoln on Sunday.
