Recovery Driver Sean Baker Sentenced After Runaway Car Drags Him in Derbyshire
A recovery driver, Sean Baker, has been handed a suspended prison sentence and disqualified from driving following an incident in Derby where he was dragged by a runaway vehicle. Footage from a nearby CCTV camera depicted the moment the car began to roll down the street, pulling Baker along with it.
Incident Details and Court Proceedings
Derby Crown Court was informed that the incident occurred due to Baker's failure to apply the handbrake properly. As a consequence, Baker sustained a significant injury to his left leg, requiring extensive medical attention and leaving him unable to work for several months. He was subsequently charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
During the sentencing, the court considered the mitigating circumstances, including Baker's immediate remorse and his previous clean driving record. The judge imposed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. Additionally, Baker received a 24-month driving ban and was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work within the community.
