Rudy Giuliani Recovers From Pneumonia, Now Breathing Independently in Hospital
Rudy Giuliani, former New York City Mayor and prominent supporter of Donald Trump, is now breathing independently after battling pneumonia. His spokesman, Ted Goodman, stated that Giuliani, 81, remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
Goodman attributed the severity of Giuliani's illness to a pre-existing restrictive airway disease, which he developed following exposure to toxic dust and smoke during the 9/11 attacks. This condition reportedly diminished his ability to combat the viral infection, necessitating mechanical ventilation.
Giuliani gained public recognition as 'America's Mayor' for his leadership in New York City after the 9/11 attacks, an effort recognised with an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth in 2002. However, his later career saw him become Donald Trump's personal lawyer, promoting unsubstantiated claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
These actions led to a defamation lawsuit, where a jury ordered him to pay two election workers USD#148 million for false accusations of ballot fraud. He was subsequently disbarred and declared bankruptcy. Donald Trump, in a social media post, repeated his baseless allegations regarding the 2020 election while expressing concern for Giuliani's health.
