Samuel Field Jailed for Minimum 22 Years Over 93-Year-Old Martin Glynn's Murder
Samuel Field, 40, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years for the murder of 93-year-old Martin Glynn. Field, formerly of Gold Street, Desborough, Northamptonshire, was found guilty of murder following a sustained assault on Glynn at Field's home in September 2024.
The prosecution detailed how Glynn was subjected to a brutal attack, including punches, kicks, stamps, and strangulation, over a period exceeding 24 hours. During the assault, Field reportedly made voice recordings referencing a conspiracy. Glynn never recovered from his injuries and died on 26 December, three months after the attack.
During proceedings at Northampton Crown Court, prosecutor Adrian Langdale KC characterised the attack as “senseless” and “entirely pointless”. Langdale also described the relationship between Field and Glynn, who had known each other for approximately 20 years, as a “long-standing imbalanced relationship”. It was revealed that Glynn had been providing Field with “a significant amount of money”, including weekly payments of £200 in cash.
The court heard that Field’s heavy drug use, following a relationship breakdown, contributed to an “aggressive paranoid state towards those around him”. Langdale noted that in the months preceding the murder, Field had “become increasingly threatening to his mother, brother, neighbours and landlord”.
Judge Stephen Eyre presided over the sentencing, remarking on the “sustained attack” which involved “prolonged and repeated beatings” inflicted upon Mr Glynn.
