Six Men Charged After Southampton Protest Over Henry Nowak Murder
A further six men have been charged by Hampshire police in connection with a protest in Southampton that erupted after the murder of Henry Nowak. The demonstration, held on 2 June, resulted in injuries to eleven police officers and a police dog, who were targeted with missiles including wheelie bins and chairs.
The protest followed the release of police bodycam footage depicting 18-year-old Nowak, from Essex, handcuffed and dying after being stabbed. His assailant, Vickrum Digwa, 23, received a life sentence on 1 June for the murder.
Hampshire police confirmed that a total of 20 people have now been charged in relation to the disturbances. The six recently charged individuals are scheduled to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court.
Nowak, a first-year accountancy and finance student at the University of Southampton, was fatally stabbed in December by Digwa, who had falsely asserted racial abuse and self-defence to justify his actions.
