Teesside Police Investigate A66 Crash and Arson Aftermath as Officers Mourn

Cleveland Police are investigating a fatal collision on the A66 in Teesside, which claimed the lives of two young men. The incident, involving a grey Nissan Qashqai and a white Vauxhall Corsa, occurred just before 01:00 GMT on Monday. The deceased have been identified as 17-year-old Thomas Booth from Stockton and 18-year-old Callum Brown from Middlesbrough.

Officers are also examining footage that shows vehicles being deliberately set alight during an event held for one of the victims. These arsons, involving a Vauxhall Corsa and a Volkswagen Golf, took place on Monday evening and Tuesday morning respectively, close to the crash site. No arrests have been made in connection with these fires.

Chief Superintendent Graham Brown acknowledged the profound impact of the tragedy on the local community, stating that many police officers are 'working through pain' as they knew the individuals involved. He appealed to the public for assistance with the investigation into both the fatal collision and the subsequent arsons, urging anyone with information, particularly dashcam footage, to come forward. The force has indicated it will deploy additional patrols in the area to manage public safety and maintain order.
