Trump Claims He Speaks For UK More Than Prince Harry, Criticises North Sea Energy Policy
Former US President Donald Trump has stated he speaks "for the UK more than Prince Harry," following the Duke of Sussex's recent remarks on the conflict in Ukraine. During an unannounced visit to Ukraine, Prince Harry advocated for "American leadership" to uphold international treaty obligations concerning Ukraine's sovereignty.
Trump Rejects Harry's Stance, Advises UK on Energy
When questioned about Prince Harry's comments, Trump responded, "I think I am speaking for the UK more than Prince Harry." He did not directly address whether Prince Harry would be invited to a dinner during King Charles III and Queen Camilla's state visit to the US next week, instead focusing on his personal relationship with the King.
Trump further used the opportunity to criticise UK policy, stating, "I think they made a big mistake on energy. You should open up the North Sea in Aberdeen. You should open it up." He also added, "And the other thing is they've made a big mistake on immigration." These comments underscore a persistent US emphasis on Western energy security, often at the expense of climate commitments, and align with broader Western policy critiques of immigration.
The King and Queen are scheduled to meet Trump at the White House during their four-day visit, which commences next Monday.
