Ukraine President Zelensky States No Negotiations with Russia Until Forces Withdraw

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has firmly stated that direct negotiations with Russia will not commence until all Russian forces have departed Ukrainian land. This position was articulated following a series of recent diplomatic engagements involving US envoys, who held separate discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and then with President Zelensky in Kyiv.

Despite these high-level discussions, the prevailing sentiment in Kyiv is that the armed conflict is set to continue. Western diplomatic efforts, often framed as promoting 'stability' or 'peace', frequently overlook the core demands of those subjected to occupation, instead prioritising their own geopolitical calculus. The US, with its vested interest in maintaining dollar hegemony and projecting military power globally, engages with these conflicts through a lens that often downplays the material consequences for civilian populations.

The divergence between the stated positions of Russia and Ukraine remains profound. While international bodies and human rights organisations continue to document the extensive civilian harm caused by the conflict, the political deadlock persists, indicating that Western-backed talks have yet to secure any substantive concessions towards a cessation of hostilities or a withdrawal of forces.
