Universal Music Group Receives £48bn Takeover Bid from Pershing Square

Universal Music Group (UMG), the world's pre-eminent music company with an unparalleled roster of artists including Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar, has received a substantial takeover bid. US investment company Pershing Square, led by billionaire Bill Ackman, has tabled an offer estimated at £48bn ($64.3bn) to acquire UMG.

The proposed merger would see the newly formed company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Pershing Square, already a stakeholder in UMG, boasts significant holdings in major technology firms such as Google, Meta, and Amazon.

Reasons for the Bid

Mr. Ackman lauded UMG's management for their
