Wayne Taylor Died Saving Children From Sea in Tywyn, Gwynedd
Wayne Taylor, a 42-year-old father, has been named locally as one of two men who tragically died after entering the sea to assist children in difficulty off Tywyn, Gwynedd. The incident unfolded on Sunday, leading to a significant response from the Coastguard, RNLI lifeboats, police, and air ambulance services.
Reports indicate that multiple children encountered distress in the water, prompting Mr Taylor and another man to intervene. While the children were successfully brought to safety, both men required urgent rescue.
Mr Taylor, from Manchester, was airlifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, where he was pronounced dead. The second man, whose identity has not yet been released, was also recovered from the water and subsequently died at the scene.
North Wales Police have confirmed they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the two deaths, collaborating with the coroner's office. Initial statements suggest no suspicious circumstances are currently believed to be involved.
This tragic event has prompted warnings from maritime safety organisations regarding the dangers of strong currents and the importance of vigilance when engaging with coastal waters, particularly in areas like Tywyn known for their dynamic sea conditions.
