Westminster Bridge Collision Hospitalises Five Police Officers, Investigation Underway

Five Metropolitan Police officers were taken to hospital following a collision involving their police boat and Westminster Bridge. The incident, which occurred during what authorities described as routine operational activity, saw a number of officers fall into the River Thames.

All officers were recovered from the water. Four of the injured were subsequently discharged from hospital, while one officer remains under medical observation, though their injuries are not considered life-threatening. The Marine Policing Unit operates from a base in Wapping, with its vessels regularly patrolling the Thames for security and incident response.

An investigation into the precise circumstances of the collision has commenced. Such incidents, while infrequent, highlight the operational risks inherent in riverine policing within a busy urban environment like central London.
