Wizz Air Flight Lands in Budapest Under Fighter Jet Escort After Bomb Threat
A Wizz Air passenger plane, operating flight W66401 from London Luton Airport to Antalya, Turkey, diverted to Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport on Saturday after a bomb threat was received mid-air.
Hungarian air traffic control was alerted to the threat, prompting two Hungarian Air Force JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets to scramble and intercept the Airbus A321neo. The fighter jets escorted the civilian aircraft to a safe landing in Budapest. All 180 passengers and crew were evacuated immediately upon arrival.
A thorough search of the aircraft and luggage was conducted by Hungarian authorities. No explosive device was discovered during the inspection, leading to the incident being declared a false alarm. Passengers were subsequently allowed to re-board the aircraft to continue their journey to Antalya after the comprehensive security check.
