Woolwich Prisoner Escape: Drug Convict Flees Custody Van Near High Street
A convicted drug dealer, Temitope Segun, 25, remains at large after escaping a prisoner transport van in Woolwich, south-east London, on Monday. Segun, who was serving a sentence for supplying Class A drugs, was last observed near Woolwich High Street at approximately 18:40 BST on 8 June.
The Metropolitan Police stated that Segun assaulted a guard while being transferred from Bromley Magistrates' Court to HMP Thameside, subsequently fleeing custody. Private contractor Serco, responsible for the transport, confirmed the incident and stated it is under investigation. One Serco staff member sustained injuries but is now recuperating at home.
Segun was last seen in a black jacket, black trousers, and black trainers. Authorities believe he has connections to the Plumstead, Abbey Wood, and Woolwich areas. Detective Sergeant Claudine Manning of the Met Police urged the public to contact 999 immediately if they see Segun or have information regarding his whereabouts.
Serco holds a prisoner escort and custody services contract with the Ministry of Justice for the south of England.
