
14-Year-Old Girl Charged with Attempted Murder After Manchester Co-op Academy Stabbing
A 14-year-old girl has been charged with three counts of attempted murder after a knife attack at the Co-op Academy on Plant Hill Road in Blackley, Manchester. The incident on Tuesday saw a boy and a girl, both 14, and a 27-year-old male staff member stabbed.
Police confirmed the suspect also faces two counts of possessing a bladed article on school premises. She is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on Friday.
Counter Terrorism Policing North West is leading the investigation, though the incident has not been officially classified as an act of terrorism. Detective Chief Superintendent Jonathan Chadwick stated that while charges have been secured, the investigation remains ongoing, with continued support for the victims, their families, and the wider school community.
All injured individuals have since been discharged from hospital, having sustained no serious injuries. The suspect was initially detained under the Mental Health Act before being transferred to police custody.
Co-op Academy implemented immediate lockdown procedures following the incident, which occurred at approximately 08:30 BST. A spokesperson commended the staff's swift actions and the pupils' mature response during the emergency.
