Baby Girl Dies in Suspected Dog Attack in Redcar
A three-month-old baby girl has died in Redcar following a suspected dog attack, Cleveland Police have confirmed. Emergency services were called to an address on Hardale Grove, Dormanstown, on Thursday afternoon after reports of concern for a child.
Police Action and Arrest
Upon arrival, armed officers destroyed two dogs linked to the incident; one on the street and another at the property. Authorities believe the infant sustained fatal injuries from a dog bite. A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, resulting in death. He has since been released on conditional bail as enquiries continue.
A 31-year-old woman also sustained a bite to her arm and received hospital treatment. Both dogs were assessed by a specialist officer and are not thought to be of a banned breed.
Ongoing Investigation
Chief Superintendent Rachel Stockdale, Head of Local Policing, stated that a police presence will remain at the address while the investigation progresses. "Our thoughts continue to be with the child's family following this tragic and distressing incident," she said, appealing for the family's privacy to be respected. The force has urged anyone with information or footage relating to the incident to come forward.
