Bedfordshire Police Appeal for Information Six Months After Beata Szauer’s Stabbing Death
Bedfordshire Police have issued a renewed appeal for public information, six months after the discovery of Polish hairdresser Beata Szauer’s body in her Brook Street home. Ms Szauer, 46, was found dead with suspected stab wounds on 7 January; her last known sighting was captured on CCTV on 21 December.
Detective Chief Inspector Sam Khanna highlighted the police’s limited understanding of Ms Szauer’s life, describing her as a “vulnerable person.” “We believe it is likely Beata died two weeks prior to being discovered by a landlord who had not heard from her,” DCI Khanna stated. “There are people out there who knew and socialised with Beata, that we have not been able to identify and would be keen to hear from.”
Two men, both in their 50s, were arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently released on police bail. Another man, in his 40s, also arrested on suspicion of murder, has since died, with police confirming his death is not being treated as suspicious.
Ms Szauer, a mother-of-two, occasionally worked as a remote hairdresser and was known to frequent the Polski Smak and Sainsbury’s stores in Crawley Road. Authorities are urging anyone who knew her, was a client, or saw her in the weeks leading up to her death to come forward. “We owe it to Beata and her family to find answers, and to apprehend anyone involved in her death,” DCI Khanna added.
