Denise Cosco, Witness Against Mafia Father in Mother's Murder, Found Dead in Italy

Denise Cosco, who provided crucial testimony against her father and other members of the 'Ndrangheta organised crime syndicate, has been discovered dead in Italy. Cosco was a central figure in the investigation into the 2009 disappearance and presumed murder of her mother, Lea Garofalo, whose body was never recovered.

Garofalo, a former associate of the 'Ndrangheta, disappeared after entering a witness protection programme. Cosco's testimony implicated her father, Carlo Cosco, along with his brother and three other men, in Garofalo's murder. Carlo Cosco and an accomplice received life sentences for the killing, with three other defendants given lengthy prison terms.
