Donald Trump Endorses Absent New Jersey Congressman Tom Kean Jr for Re-Election
Donald Trump has issued a full endorsement for New Jersey Congressman Tom Kean Jr, despite the Republican's prolonged absence from public duties. Kean Jr, who last appeared in Congress on 5 March, has missed more than 100 votes and has not been seen in his home district for months. His staff attributed his disappearance to a medical issue in April, with Kean Jr himself stating he expected a full recovery and a return to his duties "very soon".
Trump's endorsement, posted on Truth Social, lauded Kean Jr as a "Tremendous Advocate of our America First Agenda" who "is working tirelessly" – a claim that stands in contrast to his documented absence. Concerns about Kean Jr's whereabouts first surfaced in March from colleagues and news organisations, with text messages and interview requests going unanswered.
The Congressman's office released a statement on 27 April, and he participated in a telephone interview with the New Jersey Globe a month later, reiterating his intention to seek re-election and return to public life. He acknowledged "the need for public transparency" and anticipated a return to voting and campaigning within weeks. However, as primary ballots were cast, Kean Jr remained publicly unseen.
Kean Jr's district is considered a critical swing seat, essential for Republicans to retain control of Congress in November's midterm elections. Trump's intervention highlights the strategic importance of the seat and the former President's willingness to back candidates, regardless of personal controversies or mysteries surrounding their conduct.
