Eamonn Holmes Recovering After Stroke
Broadcaster Eamonn Holmes, 66, is currently recovering in hospital after suffering a stroke last week. His son, Declan Holmes, confirmed his father is "doing OK" and the family is focusing on "keeping things steady around" him.
GB News, where Holmes presents the breakfast programme, released a statement on Saturday, indicating he was "responding well to treatment."
On Sunday, Mr. Holmes took to Instagram to thank his followers for their "many many good wishes," acknowledging they provided him with significant strength. He shared a poignant image of his granddaughters, one holding a sign that read, "get well soom [sic]," to which he light-heartedly responded, "As my beautiful granddaughters put it so well - I will do my best to get well SOOM [sic]."
Declan Holmes, in his own Instagram statement, described the incident as a "real shock" and thanked well-wishers for their messages. He requested privacy for the family "as we navigate it, and what lies ahead."
Angelos Frangopoulos, GB News chief executive, described Mr. Holmes as a "loved member of the GB News family" and affirmed the channel's support for his recovery. Holmes, originally from Northern Ireland, has been open about previous health challenges, including spinal surgery and hip replacements, which have affected his mobility.
A stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted, leading to brain cell damage. Symptoms can include facial drooping, arm weakness, and speech difficulties.
