English FA Withdraws Support for Gianni Infantino's FIFA Presidency Re-election Bid
The English Football Association (FA) has announced its decision to withdraw support for Gianni Infantino's bid for re-election as FIFA president. This move follows the Football Association of Wales (FAW) in declining to back Infantino, who is currently running unopposed for another term.
FA Chair Debbie Hewitt communicated this stance to UEFA counterparts earlier in the month, prior to the official deadline for nominations on 16 November. Hewitt confirmed the FA's position, stating, "We will not be voting for Gianni Infantino."
Infantino's bid has faced scrutiny due to the absence of any opposing candidates, effectively ensuring his continued leadership without a democratic challenge. The FA's decision underscores a growing unease among some European football associations regarding the current governance structure of FIFA.
