Essex Police Appeal for Mother of Newborn Baby Found on Mersea Island Shoreline
Essex Police have launched an appeal for the mother of a newborn baby whose body was discovered on Mersea Island's shoreline. Officers were called to the beach near Colchester at approximately 11:15 BST on Saturday following the distressing find.
Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby, leading the investigation, stated that the primary concern is the mother's welfare. "I want to be clear that my priority, and the priority of my team, is to ensure the mother of this baby is safe and receives the care and support she needs," he emphasised.
Authorities believe the baby girl was born recently. Police have initiated door-to-door enquiries and are reviewing local CCTV footage as part of their efforts to locate the mother. The force has urged anyone with information, particularly those who may know a woman who was pregnant but is no longer, to contact them immediately. Police reiterated that the mother is not considered to be in any trouble and will be treated with compassion and support.
