Glasgow Teenager Hospitalised Following St Enoch Centre Gang Attack
A teenager was taken to hospital after sustaining injuries during a gang assault at the St Enoch Centre in Glasgow. Emergency services were called to the shopping complex at approximately 16:20 on Saturday, following reports of a disturbance.
Police Scotland confirmed that the youth was transported to hospital for treatment. The nature and extent of their injuries have not been publicly disclosed. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing, with officers appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward.
This event occurred mere days after Glasgow City Council, acting on police recommendations, extended dispersal zone powers across parts of the city centre, including the St Enoch Centre area. These powers permit officers to direct individuals or groups to leave a specified area for up to 24 hours if their presence is contributing to anti-social behaviour, harassment, or distress to the public.
The extension of these powers, initially implemented in late 2023, reflects persistent concerns regarding public order and youth congregating in city centre locations. Critics often point to such measures as indicative of broader societal issues, questioning their long-term effectiveness without addressing underlying causes of youth alienation and violence.
