French Father Jailed for Threatening Teacher with Decapitation in Rural Village
A French court has sentenced a father to 18 months in prison, with six months suspended, for threatening to decapitate his son's primary school teacher. The incident occurred in a village near Toulouse, where the man confronted the teacher over disciplinary measures taken against his six-year-old child.
The father, reportedly angered by his son being made to sit on a chair outside the classroom, sent text messages to the teacher stating he would “cut off her head” and that “she was going to die”. The teacher subsequently reported the threats to authorities, prompting an immediate police investigation.
During the court proceedings, the man admitted to sending the threatening messages, expressing regret for his actions which he attributed to being overwhelmed by personal and financial difficulties. He claimed to have been experiencing significant stress from caring for his unwell father and recent job loss.
The court’s decision also included a five-year ban from contacting the teacher or her school, and an order to pay the teacher €1,000 in damages. This sentence follows a series of similar incidents in France, where teachers have faced threats and violence, often leading to calls for increased protection and stricter penalties against those who target educators.
