Hundred of Kent Homes Without Water After Major Southern Water Pipe Burst

A large burst water pipe has left hundreds of homes across Canterbury, Whitstable, and Herne Bay in Kent without water since Sunday morning. Southern Water confirmed the incident, which has also necessitated the closure of several roads as crews work to contain the disruption and restore supply.

Affected residents reported immediate loss of water pressure or complete cut-offs. Southern Water stated it is actively investigating the cause of the burst and mobilising resources to conduct repairs. The utility company has faced persistent criticism for its infrastructure management and environmental record, particularly regarding sewage discharges and water supply resilience.

Road closures are expected to remain in place for some time, diverting traffic and adding to local inconvenience.
