Irish Coast Guard Conducts 150-Metre Rope Rescue of Engaged Couple From Kilkee Cliffs
A couple became stranded on the Kilkee Cliffs in County Clare, Ireland, prompting a complex 150-metre rope rescue by the Irish Coast Guard. The incident occurred after the pair, who had recently become engaged, were walking along the cliff path when a section of it unexpectedly collapsed beneath them.
The Coast Guard's volunteer unit from Kilkee responded to the emergency call, locating the individuals approximately 150 metres down the cliff face. Due to the treacherous terrain and the risk of further collapse, a full rope rescue operation was initiated. Specialist teams worked to secure the area and safely extract the couple.
Both individuals were assessed by emergency medical services upon reaching safety. They were reported to be shaken but otherwise unharmed following the ordeal. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers associated with cliff walks, particularly in areas prone to erosion and instability.
