Manchester's 'A Bed Every Night' Initiative Receives Doubled Funding for Rough Sleepers
Greater Manchester's 'A Bed Every Night' initiative, designed to provide emergency accommodation for rough sleepers, is set to receive a significant funding increase. The programme, spearheaded by Mayor Andy Burnham, will see its budget doubled in an effort to secure shelter for all individuals experiencing homelessness across the region before Christmas.
Mr Burnham made tackling rough sleeping his inaugural pledge upon entering office in July. The scheme offers a warm bed and support services, aiming to provide a pathway off the streets. This substantial financial boost reflects a renewed commitment to addressing the immediate humanitarian crisis of homelessness within the conurbation.
The additional resources are expected to expand capacity and reach more vulnerable individuals, aligning with the Mayor's broader ambition to eliminate rough sleeping in Greater Manchester. Local authorities and support organisations will be instrumental in deploying these funds to ensure effective provision of emergency accommodation and ongoing assistance.
